Development Strategy for POB Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering for years 2022-2026

The aim of POB Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering (POB BIB) is to achieve a sustainable increase in the international position and reputation of the Warsaw University of Technology perceived as a research university with special competences and outstanding achievements in the area of scientific, research and development, and teaching activities in the field of biotechnology, bioengineering, and biomedical engineering.

The fundamental goal of POB BIB will be achieved by strengthening the University's potential in the above-mentioned subjects, thanks to substantive, financial, and administrative support for research and organisational initiatives focused on:

The achievement of scientific excellence in the BIB area through the implementation of research projects at the world-class level.
Activation and integration of PW scientific teams, conducive to better use of existing research resources of the University.
Cooperation with recognised national and foreign research teams - in particular in the field of medicine, pharmacy, and biology, facilitating the implementation of interdisciplinary work.
Cooperation with the social and economic environment, leading to the practical implementation of the University's scientific achievements in medicine, pharmacy, and related fields.
Strengthening and development of human potential, including through the acquisition of outstanding scientists from other centres and the development of young scientific staff.
Development of research infrastructures and optimisation of their use, for the implementation of world-class research.
Dissemination of information about the outstanding achievements of PW research teams. in the subject of BIB (through traditional and electronic media and as part of organised symposia), leading to the social impact of the activities of POB BIB.

The desired outcomes of support for research teams offered by POB BIB are:

An increase in the number of research projects obtained through calls for proposals financed from external sources, especially international ones.
An increase in the number of research and development agreements concluded with industrial partners from Poland and abroad.
An increase in the number of scientific publications in highly cited journals (upper decile), especially those published as part of international cooperation.
An increase in the number of obtained patents, especially in transnational proceedings.
An increase in the number of new spin-out and spin-off companies created to commercialise the results of scientific research obtained at the University in the topics related to POB BIB.
An increase in the number of research devices and their better use.

The activities of POB BIB leading to the enhancement of the University's reputation in the field of educational achievements will include:

Initiating activities increasing the number of courses offered at PW in the fields and specialisations related to the thematic scope of POB BIB, conducive to the implementation of research-based education, acquiring ambitious candidates for studies (including from abroad) and selecting the best candidates to continue their scientific career (including – as part of the PW doctoral school).
Patronage of student research initiatives.
Cooperation with the PW doctoral school, enhancing the attractiveness of the offered modes of education and supporting the mobility of doctoral students.
