Updated: The closing date for applications for funding in the competition is 30 April 2022.

Optical measuring methods are widely used in research on technical objects on a macro-scale or to observe the biological microworld world, among other things. Techniques generating a band image are an especially interesting group. As part of the Photonic Technologies grant, WUT scientists have undertaken to “purify” this image to observe and research the microworld around us even more precisely. 

In the POSTDOC II competition, 11 projects will receive fundings.

In the Visiting Researcher competition, 1 project will receive funding.

There are plenty of scientists willing to carry out cardiology-related research at the Warsaw University of Technology. The results may save patients’ lives. 

In 2017 during laboratory work, researchers at the Warsaw University of Technology for the first time observed a photonic structure in nematic liquid crystals dispersed with nanoparticles of gold. The observation led to the publication of research findings in 2019 in ACS Nano - the upper decile journal. The scientists did not stop their work and continued their research as part of the implementation of the research grant awarded in the FOTECH-1 competition. An article just published in Communications Materials (Nature group) describes this work.

Results 

In the SzIR-3 competition, 7 projects will receive fundings.

In the Technologie Materiałowe-3 competition, 9 projects will receive fundings: 2 in Start and 7 in Advanced.

In the BEYOND POB II competition, 13 projects will receive fundings

In the ENERGYTECH-3 competition, 5 projects will receive fundings: 2 in Impulse and 3 in Power.

In the FWEiTE-3 competition, 3 projects will receive fundings.

In the FOTECH-3 competition, 7 projects will receive fundings.

In the BioTechMed_LAB-1 competition, 6 projects will receive fundings.

In the CyberiADa-3 (Junior, Senior) competition, 5 projects will receive fundings.

Each year, around 185 thousand people worldwide undergo amputation. It is estimated that this number will double by 2050. A team from the Warsaw University of Technology is working on a universal and cheap hand prosthesis, the elements of which would be replaceable and could "grow" with the user.

We inform that employees and doctoral students of the Warsaw University of Technology may apply for financial support for the publication of articles in journals as part of this year's edition of the Open Science program by the end of November 2021.

At present, from the perspective of optical fibre communications, we need further progress in eliminating certain defects of photonic systems under research, such as insufficiently quick response time to the external electric field (tens of milliseconds) and the necessity to use high steering voltage due to a big diameter of the photonic optical fibre (hundreds of volts). Scientists at WUT are working on solving these problems. Their research project is implemented as part of the FOTECH-2 research grant funded within the programme ‘Excellence Initiative – Research University’ implemented at the Warsaw University of Technology.

With a growing number of people suffering from melanoma, scientists worldwide are researching an effective therapy to prevent drug resistance among patients. A team of researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology is also a part of this group. 

In the competition for projects aiming to purchase equipment, 22 projects will receive fundings.

The closing date for the submission of applications for projects aiming to purchase equipment and instrumentation which refer to the research in the field of “Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering” or related topics fitting into the scope of the activity of the Priority Research Area “Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering” is 12 November 2021.
